Raising the bar in Egypt

As part of its commitment to long-term and proactive relationships with suppliers, Electrolux organized an interactive training session in Egypt to clarify requirements under the updated Code of Conduct.

Following last year’s supplier training event in Egypt, 60 representatives, including staff from Electrolux purchasing department and 33 suppliers, attended a workshop in December 2014 to learn about the updated Electrolux Code of Conduct (CoC). A particular focus was higher environment and human rights requirements. It was an opportunity for attendees to exchange experience and discuss how best to comply with the new stipulations.

Growing together

Electrolux aims to develop long-term learning relationships with suppliers. This builds understanding and helps to ensure that requirements for timely delivery to the Group’s deadlines are aligned with the need to adhere to the updated CoC.

Good progress

Since the CoC was extended to suppliers in 2013, there have been significant improvements. Audits among many suppliers reveal that performance in Health & Safety, Laws & Regulations, Compensation and Environmental Management has been lifted. Knowledge and awareness gained during the initial audit appears to be a significant factor in this.

But living up to all aspects of the CoC, particularly now that it has been strengthened, can be challenging. In Egypt, for instance, handling waste properly where there are few waste treatment and recycling facilities is difficult. Other areas for improvement are working hours and ensuring that sub-suppliers comply with the CoC.
